The balneum was put out of use around the third quarter of the 6th century. It was probably bought up (as a real estate transaction) and demolished so that the first church could be built: the so-called ‘North Church’ (see Theotokos Kyriotissa/Kalenderhane Camii) that now covered the open space adjacent to the Valens aqueduct bridge. It thereby also partially covered the remains of the Roman bath.
