The Çinili Hammam was commissioned to Süleyman’s master architect Sinan by Barbaros Hayrettin Kapudan Pasha, admiral of the Ottoman fleet. With the revenues from the bath house, Barbaros wanted to raise funding for a religious school in Beşiktaş, where later he himself was buried. Architect Sinan laid the foundations of the Çinili Hammam over a Byzantine cistern, the remains of which were found during the restoration that took place between 2010 and 2023.
