It was discovered when a garage was constructed to the south of the German Hospital (now Taksim Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi?). The excavation was recorded by Mamboury in his notebook (now in Deutsches Archäologisches Institut in Istanbul, DAI).

Mamboury also recorded stamped bricks from a wall that was demolished in 1940 (Bardill, 2004, p. 80).
