In the 16th century, it served as a workplace for sil spinners (Lubenau), and later also for rope makers.
In the 17th century Vizier Fazlı Paşa (Ottoman name: Fazlıpaşa bodrum) built a palace over it.
In the early 19th century, it was returned to the silk spinners once more.
It served as a warehouse for a local market in the early 20th century.
