Baths in Region IX. Due to its high altitude location, the Baths of Anastasiae were presumably supplied by the Valens Waterway (alongside with the cistern of Modestus, the Thermae Constantinianae and the Great Nymphaeum) (Crow et al., 2008, p. 13). They were built by Emperor Valens (r. 364-378), who named them after his daughter Anastasia (Crow et al., 2008, p. 127).
When Procopius revolted during Valens' reign in 365, Ammianus Marcellinus reports that the two legions he bribed - Legio Divitensis and Tungrica - were stationed there.
