Earliest datable surviving cistern after the closure of the Proconnesian quarries (major supply for the production of columns). Built by Romanos I Lekapenos (r. 920-944) underneath his palace (Crow et al., 2008, p. 139).
Not to be confused with İpek Bodrum Cistern near the Reservoir of Aetius.
