description

The Excerpta Historica is a historical and moral encyclopaedia, commissioned by Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus (945-959). It is a thematically structured compilation in 53 volumes, consisting of sections from several historians from antiquity and especially from the early Byzantine period (for some of these, it is the sole source).
