The 'General History' by Theophylact Simocatta was designed as a continuation of Menander Protector's, on the reign of the emperor Mauricius (582-602) with a look back to the time since 572. The 'History' depicts the period covered in great detail, but is chronologically imprecise and has a vague, florid style.
