Bonus the patrician served alongside patriarch Sergius as deputy of Heraclius in Constantinople when the emperor was away. In preparation of the siege of 626, he strenghtened the walls and took measures to prepare the city for siege. He oversaw Constantinople's defence.

Bonus founded a cistern named after him close to his own house.
