description

The son of Arcadius I. He succeeded his father in 408, at 7 years old. His reign was dominated by others, including his older sister Pulcheria. He spent most of his life in Constantinople. He is known for compiling law texts into the Codex Theodosianus and the building of the defensive land walls for which Constantinople is most known for. He died because of a riding accident in 450.
