description

Gyllius was a French natural scientist and topographer from Albi. His travels to the Mediterranean - and Constantinople specifically (where he stayed between 1544-1550) - produced multiple works, among which De Topographia Constantinopoleos ("On the antiquities of Constantinople") is one of the most important. He died in Rome in 1555 of malaria.
