description

After the collapse of the Tetrarchy, Constantine was acclaimed emperor in Britain. He reorganised the empire's administration into prefectures and reformed the army. Most notably, he refounded the Greek colony of Byzantion as the new capital Constantinople and is known as the first Christian emperor. He convoked the council of Nicaea and was baptised on his deathbed. As founder of the City and Christian emperor, he served as a model emperor in Byzantine times.
