Septimius Severus was a military emperor famous for his campaigns against Parthia and prioritisation of the army. He razed Byzantion to the ground after the city sided with his opponent Pescennius Niger in the civil war in the Year of the Five Emperors (193 CE).

With the destruction of Byzantion, he also destroyed the Baths of Zeuxippos, which were consequently restored.
