During clearance work in the area in 1915, the remains of large vaulted ceilings were discovered. During excavations in 1927/28, remains of the walls were found together with two statue bases that confirmed that these were the Baths of Zeuxippos.

The partial excavation was done by the University of St. Andrews (1927-1928) (Yegül, 2008, p. 172).
